Healthy eats from the food bank: Iritani (‘78) article highlights humanitarian efforts of Clarke (’58) and Evans
By Erica Thompson -
Evelyn Iritani (B.A., 1978) wrote an article for ZesterDaily, an online destination for food, wine and travel enthusiasts, about two University of Southern California professors trying to make healthy eating easier for food bank visitors. The professors, Peter Clarke (B.A., 1958) and Susan Evans, enlisted the help of Seattle chef Maxime Bilet to transform the diets of those dependent on free food. They created a computer program that provides healthy recipes using food bank resources. Iritani and Clarke are both members of the UW Department of Communication Alumni Hall of Fame.
Iritani is a former writer for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer and the Los Angeles Times. She won the Pulitzer Prize in 2004 for a co-authored series on Wal-Mart’s impact on the global economy.
