Doug Underwood’s book finalist for 2014 Frank Luther Mott Award

Professor Doug Underwood’s book “The Undeclared Way between Journalism and Fiction: Journalists as Genre Benders in Literary History” (Palgrave Macmillan) was a finalist for the 2014 Frank Luther Mott Award for best research-based book from Kappa Tau Alpha, the national honor society for journalism and mass communication scholarship. The book examines how successfully the “new” journalists of the 1960s and 1970s have been in breaking into the literary canon and how their “literary” non-fiction is holding up in comparison to the work of journalists throughout literary history who have turned to fiction writing instead.
