Apply Today for L.A. and New York Career Exploration Trips

Applications are due by Monday, January 13 at 5 pm. Select students will be notified by Wednesday, January 22 concerning their informational interviews (January 28-29).

Career Exploration presents students with the opportunity to go out into the world and meet with leading communication professionals in TV production, journalism, public relations, the nonprofit sector, and more. This is a unique chance for them to expand their networks in Los Angeles and New York City.

We are looking for a wide array of students to represent the diverse experiences and interests that comprise our major; all interested communication and journalism students are encouraged to apply.

Each student is asked to submit a short video or written essay. These are then reviewed by multiple staff members, and select students will then be invited to move on to the interview rounds.  Around 20 students are chosen for an interview, and we ultimately take 8 students on each trip.

We’ll be in Los Angeles February 27-29 (Thursday-Saturday), and in New York City LIKELY during the first week of May (May 7-9, subject to change).

Please do not apply for this opportunity if you know you will be unavailable during these times. Once accepted, please speak with your instructors to let them know you will be travelling out of state.

Selected students will receive further instructions and a finalized itinerary before the trip.

We’ll be visiting two to three outstanding locales and alumni each day, with various communication industries and careers represented. While the exact details of the itinerary for those trips are still being finalized, here is a sampling of some of the organizations** we have visited before:

Los Angeles: NBC Universal Studios, USC, Warner Music Group, Dreamworks Animation

New York: VICE, Facebook, Wall Street Journal, Marie Claire, INSIDER

**We may visit with representatives with some of these organizations this year, but there’s no guarantee until the itineraries are finalized.

Broadly speaking, the trip to Los Angeles has slightly more of a focus on the entertainment industry, than the New York City trip. We craft each trip to be well-rounded with visits to multiple types of organizations.
