Matt McGarrity studies rhetorical pedagogy. Dr. McGarrity's current projects include an analysis of the rhetorics of contemporary pedagogical criticism, an analysis of how the rhetorical canon of invention is framed in textbooks, and an investigation of the rhetorical pedagogy of popular self-help textbooks of the early twentieth century. He has won top paper awards at NCA, WSCA, and CSCA. In the department, Dr. McGarrity teaches courses on rhetoric and directs the public speaking course and the Public Speaking Center. While at IU, he won departmental and university-wide teaching awards and coached the nationally ranked speech team.
