| Master
of Communication (M.C.) Programs
Professionals receiving the M.C. degree can enhance
their careers through coursework focused on digital
media, documentary filmmaking for the Native American
community, and other specializations. The Department
offers two different M.C. degrees, each of which is
described in more detail below. Note that the Digital
Media M.C. is an evening degree program with a distinct
set of courses and a different tuition structure.
1. Native Voices M.C.
Requires 45 credits, including project and oral presentation
of project. This degree is a more narrowly focused M.C., and
it is jointly sponsored by the Department of Communication and
American Indian
Studies. It is designed for documentary filmmakers who focus
their work on subjects that have special relevance to the Native
American community. Click
here for more information or contact Prof.
Daniel Hart.
2. M.C. in Digital Media
This 45-credit degree program has three concentrations:
(1) content creation, (2) management and (3) policy,
regulations and ethics. Classes meet in the evening
to fit the schedule of working professionals. Most students
are mid-career professionals, though no digital media
work experience is required. Students can choose to
complete the degree requirements by completing 45 credits
of courework and a final master's examination, or by
completing 40 credits of course work and a final project.
The program is jointly offered through UW Educational
Outreach, which has tuition rates that differ from those
in daytime programs. The degree has the same status awarded by the Department of Communication
and the University of Washington.Contact Prof. Hanson Hosein for more information or go to the M.C. Digital Media website.
