Alumni News: Richard "Dick" Kennewick

Richard ("Dick") Kennewick ('48), former Seattle Times' desk editor, passed away on November 30, 2006. He was 82. Kennewick worked at The Seattle Times full-time from 1965 to 1991 and part time until 2000. He and his twin brother Robert were born on August 8, 1923, in Seattle. Kennewick joined the Army after graduating from Cleveland in 1941, and served from 1943-46. He lost his twin brother, who was killed in action flying a B17 in Europe. After returning from the war, Kennewick attended the UW where he worked at the Daily and received a degree in Journalism. He pursued his masters and PhD in Journalism at the University of the Philippines and stayed in Manila for 15 years. He ultimately became Managing Editor for the Philippine Free Press, before returning to Seattle in 1965. Dick is survived by three sons and four grandchildren.
