Dr. Patricia Moy is the Inaugural Recipient
of the Christy Cressey Professorship in Communication

In recognition of the Professorship, the College of Arts &
Sciences and the Department of Communication held a reception
on October 4, 2005. Dr. Moy's lecture, "Communication and Community:
The Power of Talk," was followed by a reception. Faculty, staff,
alumni and friends were present to recognize this generous gift
from Christy Cressey, a 1978 graduate of the Department of Communication.
Ms. Cressey was also present.
Patricia Moy, political communication scholar, teaches in both
the Communication and Political Science departments at the University
of Washington. Her research examines the role of communication
in democratic systems, particularly how mass media influence
public opinion and political attitudes. Moy also studies how
communication affects citizens' ways of thinking and deliberation,
and impacts civic engagement. Moy earned her Ph.D. in Journalism
and Mass Communication from the University of Wisconsin-Madison,
and her B.S. and M.S. in Communication from Cornell University.
