Three from Communication Community Earn UW Awards

Dr. Crispin Thurlow , Dr. Donald H. Wulff and Dr. G. Kent Nelson are three of the recipients of the University's 2007 awards for distinguished members of the University community. The award recipients are chosen through a nomination process overseen by selection committees made up of their peers.
The Department of Communication will honor Thurlow, Wulff and Nelson at a reception on May 16, 2007 in Communications 126 beginning at 3:30 p.m.
Communication professor Crispin Thurlow is a recipient of the Distinguished Teaching Award.
Alumnus G.Kent Nelson (PhD, 1994), a professor in the UW Tacoma Milgard School of Business, is a recipient of the Distinguished Teaching Award.
Alumnus Donald H. Wulff (PhD, 1985), Associate Dean of Instructional Development and Research and an affiliate professor of Communication, is a recipient of the David B. Thorud Leadership Award.
The Distinguished Teaching Award is given annually to seven faculty members: five from the Seattle campus and one each from UW Bothell and UW Tacoma. Recipients are chosen based on a variety of criteria, including mastery of the subject matter; enthusiasm and innovation in the teaching and learning process; ability to engage students both within and outside the classroom; ability to inspire independent and original thinking in students and to stimulate students to do creative work; and innovations in course and curriculum design. First awarded in 2006, the David B. Thorud Leadership Award is given to one faculty member and one staff member who have demonstrated exceptional abilities to lead, serve, inspire, and collaborate with broad impact.

All award recipients will be formally recognized for their outstanding achievement and commitment to the University of Washington at the annual Recognition Ceremony, Thursday, June 7, 2007, in Meany Hall for the Performing Arts. The ceremony begins at 3:30 p.m. and is followed by a reception at 4:30 p.m. These events are complimentary and open to the public.
