“It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences.”
– Audre Lorde
The Communication and Difference Research Group (CDRG) is a collaboration among University of Washington faculty and graduate students dedicated to the study of difference within the field of communication. Our research and teaching intersect around questions of race, gender, sexuality, and nationality in contemporary media and society. While academic work can sometimes be a solitary pursuit, we believe that building a supportive and generative environment for emerging and seasoned scholars to share, develop, and celebrate their scholarship opens new possibilities and critically engages difference at the institutional level.
