Communication for world peace
By Kailin Wang
Center for Media and Peace Initiative (CMPI) is an independent, international, nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the significant role of media in conflict resolution and peace building. CMPI was founded in 2005 by a group of experienced communication professionals of different nationalities. The mission principle of CMPI is “towards a conflict-resolving journalism based on highest ethical standards and pursuit of world peace and unification.” In order to fulfill this mission, CMPI publishes research on the role of international media in conflict transformation and offers training projects for journalists and media professionals around the world.
One of the regions CMPI is especially concerned about is Africa. Being profoundly knowledgeable about the media landscape in Africa, CMPI is committed to conflict-solving in Africa, and to breaking the misrepresentation of Africa by media around the world. For this purpose, CMPI started the project “Media Educational Development Initiative for Africa (MEDIA).” In this project, CMPI cooperates with non-governmental organizations, local governments, academic institutions, individuals and the media to provide affordable and in-depth training and international exchange opportunities to African journalists. By doing this, MEDIA project promotes dialogue, reconciliation and the reconstruction of trust in the process of peace building in Africa.
