Featured Fund: Please give to the Pat Cranston Student Creativity Fund
Do you remember your first broadcast news class in the School of Communications? You may have had the wonderful opportunity of signing up for a Pat Cranston course, or perhaps you were in a class influenced by her creativity – such as advocating for an antenna to be installed on the roof of the new Communications building so that her students could make observations on news events found on short wave radio. Those observations later became shows the students produced on KUOW.
Working with some of Pat’s former students, we have established the Pat Cranston Student Creativity Endowed Fund in Communication. This fund supports students in their pursuit of professional opportunities for which a small amount of funding would make a huge difference. For example, the fund might provide seed money for students seeking to produce a documentary or cover the cost of a flight to Los Angeles to interview with a prominent figure or visit a small town newspaper or even help start one. The goal is to support student creativity in its vast ocean of possibilities, so that students can take a chance on an idea.
