Notes from the Board President

Alumni Board focuses on mentoring and supporting Communication students.

As we begin Spring Quarter on campus everybody is focused on the cherry trees and the ever unpredictable sightings of the sun on campus. We on the Alumni Board are focused on students. On the heels of a very successful Professional Development Month in January 2012, we are heading into our spring event. Our hope is to raise money for students and build community among our alumni, students, faculty and staff.

Professional Development Month was the first of its kind on campus and a big undertaking for the department and the board. Through panels, talks and seminars, we were able to expose students to a broad range of skills and opportunities for the future. The students who took full advantage of it were greatly enriched by the outpouring of support from professionals in the community willing to lend their time and expertise to this endeavor. For more information on Professional Development Month visit this page, which includes an extensive round-up of live-tweets from PDM sessions.

On April 26th, we will be hosting our 3rd Annual Transforming Communities Spring Auction. This event brings together all facets of the community to connect, bid on great auction items and raise much needed student support dollars for the department.  All the proceeds from the fundraiser will support transformative experiences for students. More specifically, the money will support experiential opportunities outside of the classroom to enhance the student experience. For more information and to RSVP, please visit the Department website.

If you would like to get involved and volunteer at any of our events please don’t hesitate to reach out, we are always looking for more alumni and friends to get connected and lend a hand. Contact Alumni Relations Manager Victoria Sprang for more information on volunteering: vsprang@uw.edu or 206-724-3580.
