Literary Artist Intern
 
PonderLounge seeks Literary Artist Interns to help create blogs/twits, and
provide literary-focused comments to youth writing submissions. Most work is
done online though some work might require onsite presence.
 
PonderLounge (www.ponderlounge.org) is a nonprofit, online, interactive
youth Literary Arts zone for youth in middle to high schools. We are slated
to open early next year. Creativity and self-expression is at the heart of
the PonderLounge mission, and the Interns will be integrally involved in
what we do.
 
Applications for internships will be accepted until all positions are
filled. We also accept applications on a rolling basis for spring, summer,
and fall. Interns must be located in the Seattle area.
 
This position is uncompensated. Benefits include mentoring by an experienced
creative writing teacher (Writer-in-school), real working experience in a
nonprofit setting (no-stamp licking) with the founders, an acknowledgement
and bio posting and/or a link to your personal blog on the PonderLounge
site, and a customized letter of recommendation upon successful completion
of internship.
 
DURATION, APPROXIMATE HOURS AND NEXT START DATE
. Duration: three months (may extend to six months)
. Hours:  Minimum is 1-2 hour a day, 3-5 days a week for the primary online
duties with flexible schedule. Additional hours vary on the other project
that the Intern elects to participate.
. Next Start Date: January 2010
 
We specify some of the responsibilities while purposely creating space for
you to nurture your educational and/or professional pursuit. We want our
Interns to walk away with a quantifiable, published portfolio on their
efforts.

PRIMARY DUTIES (online)
. Moderate incoming writing submissions for inappropriate content/language
. Create blog and twit posts as one of our Residents (i.e. character)
. Create writing prompts for the related blog posts.
. Provide literary-focused but non-academic comments to submissions by youth
members.

OTHER DUTIES (onsite)
. Assist teacher in school (WIS) in writing workshop at middle school(s) in
the Seattle area and provide a short summary of each session.
After Interns have proved a successful grasp on the above duties, other
possible projects may include grant research, press releases, and other
creative writing projects. We have plenty of literary and/or administrative
duties, or we are open to any ideas or interests that you might want to
pursue.
 
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
. Positive, supportive, excellent listener to the youth in middle to high
schools in a nonprofit setting.
. Enjoy the literary arts, creative writing and the power of written words.
. Experience with social networking and online marketing strategies.
. Good in blogging, familiar with Facebook and Twitter.
. Ability to work independently in an online environment.
. English, Communication, or Teaching major with a critical sense of
providing literary feedback.
