Exploring Law School information session now online
( Pre-law )
-- Posted 6/1/2012
The Pre-Law Advising Team at the University of Washington has recently developed an online version of its popular "Exploring Law School" information session. The information session covers common questions students thinking about applying to law school might have—what major they should choose, how long law school lasts and how much it costs, as well as short- and long-term strategies for making sure you're preparing for legal education. Prospective transfer students interested in perhaps attending law school someday are welcome to view the online workshop.
The Pre-Law Advising Team still conducts in-person versions of Law School Applications 101 and the Law School Personal Statement workshops, which are open only to UW students.
For more information about preparing for law school and being a pre-law student at the University of Washington, please visit the UW Pre-Law Advising website

Mock trial is a competitive, academic activity that is open to undergraduate students of all majors. We are looking for new members to join the club for
the upcoming year.
Are you interested in law school’ Acting’ Do you just like arguing with
friends, family, and strangers for no good reason’ Do you want to be part
of a club that travels and competes against schools from all around the
country’ Well then mock trial might be for you! For those unfamiliar with
mock trial, it’s a competitive activity in which two teams present alternate
sides of a fictitious court case. Students portray either attorneys or
witnesses and are graded on their performances by a panel of real-life
attorneys. Mock trial is open to undergraduate students from all majors;
you do NOT need to even be thinking about law school to participate in mock
trial, or to have a blast doing so!
Last year, in just our third year of existence, the UW Mock Trial Club had
both of our teams finish in the top seven (out of 20 teams) in our regional
tournament and qualify for the opening round of nationals in Chicago. Many
of the members of both teams were first-time mock trial participants. From
Chicago, we qualified one team to the final national tournament (a huge
accomplishment as only about 7% of teams that compete nationally make it
that far). That team finished 12th and earned an honorable mention finish.
Throughout the season, we also traveled to participate in a number of
invitational tournaments and hosted our own tournament on campus, both of
which we will be doing again this year. We are looking forward to building
on our success this year and we would love to have you come along for the
ride!
If you think mock trial might be for you or if you’d like to hear a little
more, then there are several opportunities to do so. You can visit our
booth at Club Fair on September 28th and 29th. We will also be holding TWO
informational meetings on Monday October 3rd and Tuesday October 4th, both
at 7 PM in Clark Hall. Club tryouts will be held October 6th ‘ 8th. If you
can’t make it to any of our information sessions but still want to know more
about the club or want to schedule a tryout, feel free to email us at
uwmocktrialclub@gmail.com.
We look forward to seeing you!

KAPLAN TEST PREP AND ADMISSIONS HOLDS FREE BUSINESS SCHOOL AND LAW SCHOOL
INSIDER SEMINARS FOR SEATTLE METRO RESIDENTS IN JULY 2008
To help prospective business and law school applicants increase their
knowledge about the competitive admissions process and prepare to
overcome the testing and application hurdles ahead, Kaplan Test Prep and
Admissions, a division of Kaplan Inc., will hold a free Business and Law
School Insider Seminar. Both events will take place in July in downtown
Seattle.
At these free events, attendees will benefit from Kaplan's inside tips on
admissions, strategies on test taking, and an informative discussion on
careers. We will provide an overview of important business or law school
trends and their implications. Additionally, experts will help applicants
reduce anxiety about preparing for the GMAT or LSAT and completing the
admissions process by providing information about admissions factors,
advice on developing a strong personal essay and a realistic application
timeline. The seminar is designed to give attendees an advantage over
other business and law school applicants.
The Business Insider Event will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on
Wednesday, July 16th at the Seattle Public Library. Panelists include
admissions officers from local MBA programs such as University of
Washington and Seattle University, a project manager from Microsoft, and
a current Business School student.
The Law School Insider event will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on
Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at The Seattle City Center, Lopez Room.
Panelists include admissions officers from University of Washington Law
School, Seattle University Law School, Gonzaga University Law School, a
current law school student and a practicing lawyer.
For more information and to register, please call 1-800-KAP-TEST or visit
