The Seattle Film Institute / Pathway to AA & BA Degrees
( Film )
-- Posted 5/3/2012
We now have a direct pathway for students to earn an AA and/or BA degree and be able to take filmmaking classes right away (before their general education requirements).
We're having an informational meeting at Seattle Film Institute at 11:00am, May 19th so they can come by and see the school (or, of course, students can set up an individual appointment). Attached, is a quick outline of how our articulation agreement with Shoreline allows for a direct pathway to an AA or BA degree.

transplant. The team at MatchingDonors.com is working hard to make sure that
doesn t happen. MatchingDonors.com is a 501c3 non-profit and the world s largest
online living organ donor non-profit organization.
Here is the information on the contest:
About this contest
Welcome to the second annual Matching Donors competition! Last year s contest
was a tremendous success with an amazing array of videos promoting the
altruistic organ donation through MatchingDonors.com. The winning Zooppa
video has even been broadcast on national television and its creator, Rob
Micai, has gone on to land new work because of because of his submission.
Here is your second opportunity to earn a little cash, work alongside
prestigious Hollywood professionals, and, most importantly, help save a
life!
Everybody Can Save A Life! is a video contest to raise awareness about being
a living organ donor on MatchingDonors.com. Nineteen people die every day in
the United States waiting for a kidney transplant. The team at
MatchingDonors.com is working hard to make sure that doesn t happen.
MatchingDonors.com is a 501c3 non-profit and the world s largest online living
organ donor non-profit organization. Learn more about MatchingDonors at
www.MatchingDonors.com
Your mission
Make a 30-second video that promotes, celebrates, and/or teaches about being
a living organ donor on MatchingDonors.com. Your video must prominently
feature both of the two following phrases in order to be considered:
* Everybody can Save a Life by being a living organ donor on
MatchingDonors.com
* Nineteen people die every day waiting for an organ transplant
Other than that requirement, the creative approach you take on your video is
up to you!
A serious approach could be to document the life of a transplant recipient
and what altruistic organ donation means to them and their loved ones.
A funny approach could highlight the lighter side of living organ donation.
For instance, what slapstick hijinks could happen if a well-meaning but
clumsy person was in charge of delivering the organ No matter the obstacle,
could the organ still find its way to the recipient
While the creative direction your choice, be mindful that these video will
be used as Public Service Announcements (PSAs) to promote
MatchingDonors.com, so they should represent the process of organ donation
in a positive manner.
This is a great opportunity for video makers of all skill levels to help
raise awareness about a remarkable non-profit organization and cause.

OPEN HOUSE AND FREE WORKSHOPS
Saturday, April 7
FREE WORKSHOPS 9:30am-11:00am
Production Workshop: Hardware Store Movie Lighting
Opening a catalog for pro movie lights gives most new filmmakers a severe
jolt of sticker shock. The low light sensitivity of the latest digital
cameras means that we aren?t force to use expensive 10000-watt (or even 1000
watt) lights anymore. Beautiful results can now be captured with simple
setups you can put together with parts from the hardware store or that you
may even have laying around the house. In this free workshop, you?ll learn
how to make useful light rigs out of everything from shop fluorescents to
Christmas tree lights.
Screenwriting Workshop: The Power of Metaphors
Great stories and films employ complex metaphors. Their various characters,
places, actions, and objects all reflect different aspects of hidden, inner
truths. This hour-and-a-half workshop will identify some of the symbolic,
visual elements used by screenwriters and explore how metaphors are used to
describe something that is unknown by the use of things that are known -
bringing what is abstract into the visible world. Film clips will be used to
show samples of metaphors at work on the screen.
OPEN HOUSE 11:00am-1:00pm
See the school, meet faculty members and current students, view student work
and learn about our full and part time programs - including graduate and
undergraduate degree options.

Orange Bay Media - Documentary Film - internship to start immediately!
( Intern :: Other, Film )
-- Posted 1/19/2012
Documentary Film Internship
Orange Bay Media is offering an internship position with our awesome production team for an upcoming documentary film. Orange Bay is a local video and film production company specializing in documentary and web series productions.
The intern will have the chance to learn very hands-on video and documentary film production from a great group of mentors. We will need our intern to start as soon as possible to help us out with pre-production research and interview scheduling. The intern will be able to see what it is like to make a documentary from start to finish including attending as many shoots as they can through out the process. During shoots, the intern will help out however they can and perhaps find a niche in sound, lighting, or producing. Once shooting is over, a successful intern will be invited to participate in the editing and film festival distribution process that will likely carry into Spring Quarter. During this time the intern will have the chance to meet with other local directors, producers, and actors and make lasting connections in the Seattle film circle.
The ideal candidate will have a very strong interest in film and video production and motivation to learn more about the industry. Prior experience is not necessary as we are more than willing to teach the right person. Someone who is responsible, driven, dependable and good with time management would excel in this position. Also, someone who has a somewhat flexible schedule is needed, as the hours for shoots and interviews may not be regular or predictable.
If this sounds like it could be a good fit this may be an excellent opportunity for a successful candidate.
The position is unpaid and for credit only. It will likely range between 8 and 10 hours a week but may vary at times.
To apply, tell us about yourself. Send your resume as well as a cover letter that tells us about who you are, your past experience in video (if any), what you want to get out of this internship, and your favorite joke!

OPEN HOUSE AND FREE WORKSHOPS
Saturday, October 1, 2011
FREE WORKSHOPS 9:30am-11:00am
Production Workshop: Green Screen on a Budget
Green screen background effects have revolutionized how movies and
television are being shot. But green screen isn?t just the domain of
Hollywood artists with a big budget. Digital filmmaking software on home
computers can create these effects too. In this workshop we?ll cover how to
set up a simple screen, light it, and then use it to place your talent in
front of any background.
Screenwriting Workshop: Building Dramatic Scenes
Drama is the key element at the heart of all good screenplays, no matter the
genre. Knowing how to write dramatic scenes for screenplays is essential to
the screenwriter?s success. This hour-and-a-half workshop will focus on
explaining the structure of a dramatic scene, the importance of character
motivation and goals within scenes, and the essential quality of conflict.
In addition the workshop will highlight the role of dialogue in creating
drama.

Actuality Media is an organization that takes media students to developing
countries to produce videos for social enterprises and nonprofits.
Last summer we had three successful outreaches in Latin America. In the summer of 2012 we are going back - Nicaragua, Honduras and Guatemala - and we are seeking out interested students to join us on this adventure.
A quick summary:
Lack of access to media resources keeps many brilliant social organizations out of the international spotlight. Actuality Media aims to rectify that.
Next summer, up to 5 crews will travel for a month to each outreach location.
While on site, each 4-student crew will research, write, shoot and edit a short documentary film about a local social enterprise under the guidance of a supervising producer. Once the documentary is completed, the
social enterprises that are the subject of the films will use the media to
further their mission. The films these students create will be distributed internationally.
There is a program fee to participate in the outreaches, but it is very
competitive compared to other study abroad and volunteering opportunities. There are currently no other organizations arranging video production programs like this. Students may apply either as individuals or in
teams.
"Ritmo En Los Barrios" is just one video our crews made last summer.
A flyer for the upcoming outreaches is attached - please forward this on to
your students.
Also, if you know any students that are finished with school after the current
term, please let
them know that we are still accepting applications for our January outreach to
Chiang Mai,
Thailand.
Read more about our plans at http://www.actualitymedia.com.
Thanks and Best Regards,
Robin

For the AIDS Clinical Trials Unit (ACTU) at Harborview Hospital in Seattle, WA.
The ACTU team is in the midst of putting together a new project in which we will be creating videos on HIV and AIDS awareness and research for dissemination in the local community and possible to all the ACTU networks as well. The videos will be of two varieties: 1-3 of the videos will be about 28 to 30 minutes in length and will be taped with a host and interviewees in front of a live-audience; 6-10 of the videos will be about 4 to 5 minutes in length and will consist mostly of interviews with HIV experts. We intend these videos to be informative, but with a relatable and fresh personality.
We are writing to you to see if any of your journalism students might be
interested in such a project. We are specifically looking for a video
producer who can edit the footage. While this position will not be paid, it
will be a rewarding experience and practice for the student and will help
the medical community as well. We would greatly appreciate it if you could
publicize this opportunity to your students. Please feel free to provide my

Montana Film Office is accepting student entries for $20K giveaway
( Film )
-- Posted 9/7/2011
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MONTANA FILM OFFICE TO GIVE AWAY $20K IN ?PITCH THE 406? CONTEST
Winner to get $20,000 in production equipment and services to film movie in Montana.
September 6, 2011 ? Helena, Mont. ? It?s not hard to get inspired by Montana?s one-of-a-kind locations?towering peaks, rolling plains and authentic Western communities; $20,000 might just be the boost a project needs to go from vision to reality. Montana Film Office?s recently launched contest, ?Pitch the 406,? is giving away $20,000 worth of production equipment, lighting and crew services to a filmmaker to get his or her movie made in Montana.
?This is an exciting opportunity for filmmakers, who have the inspiration they need to shoot a movie in Montana,? said Montana Film Commissioner Sten Iversen. ?All they need is the extra funding to make it happen.?
In Montana, $20,000 worth of production equipment and labor can go a long way. The rent-free equipment and services package offered through Filmlites Montana in Bozeman will be customized to the needs of the winner?s film?from grip trucks, cranes and lighting to experienced crew, who have worked on the sets of ?My Sister?s Keeper? and ?A River Runs Through It,? among many others.
Entering is easy. Contestants simply submit a three-minute video pitch at http://scout406.com, explaining why Montana is the ideal location for their movies. It can be a trailer, scene test or a person pitching from his or her couch. Entries may be for any style or genre of film, i.e., documentary, narrative fiction, TV pilot, music video.
Video pitches will be posted to the Montana Film Office?s YouTube channel at http://www.youtube.com/montanafilm, and Montana?s Studio 406 Hollywood panel of judges will select the winner.
?The contest also offers young and aspiring filmmakers great exposure to some of Hollywood?s very talented veterans, who are sitting on our judging panel,? said Iversen, who is also on the panel.
The ?Pitch the 406? Hollywood panel includes film producer Marty Katz, who has more than 30 years of motion picture and television experience. Katz owns Marty Katz Productions located in Malibu, Calif., and has served as executive vice president in charge of Motion Pictures and Television for Walt Disney Studios. It was during his time at Disney that he first visited Montana while filming ?Disorganized Crime.?
Other panelists include top industry professionals Erik Brown and Mike Fantasia. Brown is a Montana native, who is a first assistant camera operator and has worked on more than 60 films, including "The Proposal" and "Charlie Wilson's War." Fantasia entered the film industry with his first location scout in Montana for Steven Spielberg?s ?Always.? He is now a supervising location manager and production manager; his credits include features "Munich" and "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.?
Filmmakers have until November 30, 2011, to submit their video pitches for the ?Pitch the 406? contest. The winner will be announced the week of January 1, 2012. Watch the contest trailer, ?Pitch the 406,? and visit http://scout406.com to find more information on submitting entries, the judges and the prize package.
For more information on the Montana film industry, locations, resources, crews and support services, and the Studio 406 Incentive Package, visit the Montana Film Office at http://www.montanafilm.com.

South Asian Women's Film Festival
( Film )
-- Posted 2/8/2011
Tasveer ('picture' in Hindi/Urdu) is a Seattle-based grassroots community organization that is committed to bringing independent progressive South Asian films and artists to the Pacific Northwest.
Aaina, ('mirror' in Hindi/Urdu) is the South Asian Women?s Festival, focusing on and celebrating the artistic and activist work of South Asian women through performance and visual art, films, workshops, and conversations that are aimed at highlighting issues critical to the empowerment of South Asian
women. Aaina's spotlight event, Yoni Ki Baat (inspired by The Vagina Monologues), is a collection of authentic, bold, and powerful stories that are sourced, written, and narrated by local South Asian women.
The 6th Aaina will be held at the Seattle Asian Art Museum, March 25-27, 2011. Aaina is produced by Tasveer in collaboration with the Gardner Center for Asian Arts & Ideas. Please visit www.tasveer.org for more information.
I'm also attaching a flier that contains the schedule for the event, fees, dates, location and other relevant information.
Though Aaina will illuminate issues relevant about South Asian women, we hope to have a diverse audience since many of the issues discussed are not just pertinent to men and women from a range of cultural and geographic backgrounds.

secure online links. The deadline for submitting a film is April 8 (with a
Withoutabox extended deadline of May 6).
We will be awarding prizes to the winning filmmaker in each category as well as to two Louisiana filmmakers--for best short and best feature made by a filmmaker who has been a Louisiana resident since January 2010.
We'll also be handing out Audience Awards for Best Narrative Feature and
Best Documentary Feature.
Last year's festival was a great success. We had our biggest audience yet, with a 40% increase over the previous year and more than 60 filmmakers in attendance. Three short films that screened in competition at the 2010 Festival went on to receive Academy Award nominations.
Given that Louisiana now ranks third in the nation for film and television production, the New Orleans Film Festival offers a unique opportunity to connect with industry professionals and showcase your work in this growing hub for film production and exhibition.
HOW TO ENTER Entry form and information: NOFS website or NOFF Withoutabox listing.
