My research investigates the interpersonal elements of political communication—how individuals or small groups involved in the political process deliberate, negotiate, find common ground, and persuade on a micro-level (and how that can have macro-level effects). I am particularly interested in how emotion plays a role in these interactions and seek to incorporate research on emotion from a variety of fields (including cognitive sciences) into my research. My ultimate goal is to share what I learn with activists and politicians to help them better resolve conflict, compromise, and achieve important political goals.
