My research focuses on how ideological group identity plays a crucial role not just in what we believe about politics, but also how we communicate about politics. At a time when the gap between liberals and conservatives is widening and the animosity of one side towards the other is increasing, I conduct research that I hope will help us better understand what contributes to this division, how the different political identities translates to different ways of communicating, and what practices seem to be helpful in fostering deliberative discussion across party lines.
