News Laboratory

News Laboratory is the final required writing course in our journalism sequence. News Lab students actually produce stories that appear in the bureau's client newspapers. Typically such papers are small dailies and weeklies in the Seattle area. There are about two dozen clients, ranging from community-specific papers (Queen Anne News, Capitol Hill Times, etc.) to specialty publications (the Northwest Asian Weekly, Jewish Transcript, etc.).

News Lab is designed to mirror a typical newsroom, and students gain important experience in learning how to write for deadline, to re-write under editor supervision, and to produce stories that have been requested by local editors in the community.
