Youths take part in digital media summer program
June 27, 2011
As the final piece of a successful pilot year, the Seattle Digital Literacy Initiative is hosting its Summer Institute this week. In collaboration with the UW Department of Communication, the Master of Communication in Digital Media (MCDM) program, and the UW College of Education, the Common Language Project team will host 30 young people interested in digital media production.
Every day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., students, ages 12-20, will participate in hands-on lessons as they learn how to use equipment, interview professionals in the field, and go on local field trips to collect sound and material, all leading up to the composition of a final project.
Sarah Stuteville said the students will “spend the week reporting and producing a multimedia project either about their own lives and experiences, or based on programs and organizations they'll visit in the University District.”
On Friday, the students will showcase their work at the Seattle Digital Literacy Summer Institute Screening, taking place in CMU 104 from 2 to 4 p.m. All are invited to attend. RSVP online >>
