Clarence Moriwaki: BA, 1978

Clarence Moriwaki graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Arts in communications, advertising and broadcast journalism in 1978. Since then, Moriwaki has been successful in his career and active in community service.

Moriwaki has had a variety of jobs, some of which include news anchor, reporter and editor of KAYO NewsTalk radio from 1979-1980 and for KVI AM radio until 1985. He was a news editor, producer and writer for KJR AM radio the same year and later moved on to become press secretary for the Office of the Lieutenant Governor, and later for the Governor-elect Lowry's Transition Team.

Moriwaki has been a city council member for the city of Tukwila, and was a Washington state Senate candidate for the 11th legislative district primary election in 1992.

Most recently, Moriwaki worked as media relation's specialist for Sound Transit and in 2003 he began work as the special assistant to the Office of Congressman Jay Inslee where he still is today.

His community, civic and leadership work is extensive. Since 1985, Moriwaki has been part of committees, chairman and a board member for a slue of community associations and commissions. Some of his most recent work has been with organizations such as the Asian American Journalists Association, Bainbridge Island WWII Nikkei Internment and Exclusive Memorial Committee, and City of Bainbridge Island Salary Commission.

He has been the "Take a Stand Against Hate Rally" Spokesman and emcee since 2001 and a committee member of Common Threads/North Kitsap Multi-Cultural Task Force since 2005.
