Ekin Yasin brings an inter-disciplinary approach to both research and teaching, combining texts, methods and theories from the domains of anthropology, area studies and communication. She has taught courses in digital media, media history and international communication at New York University and Baruch College. Her research interests are two-fold: previously, she has done fieldwork in Turkey on the use of digital media by transnational religious groups based; more recently, she has investigated the visual culture of tumors, which looks at the mediation and mediatization of cancer tumors. Through onsite field work at a leading scientific organization, she attempts to understand the technologies, institutions and species involved in creating a visual culture that seeks to see, understand and act upon tumors.
