Lauren Archer enters the PhD program in the Department of Communication at the University of Washington with an interest in rhetorical criticism and the rhetoric of science. More specifically, her research seeks to understand issues of public understanding of science as well as public engagement with science. While completing her M.A. at the University of Colorado, she explored the intersection between science and politics through an examination of President Obama's discourse about science. She is also interested in exploring the rhetoric of expertise and the impact it has on policy development and implementation.

Although Lauren most recently moved from Boulder, CO, before heading out west she lived in Wilmington, NC. She is happy to once again be living near water and enjoying fresh seafood.
